How to improve your speaking skills through shadowing.
Imagine that you are listening to someone who speaks very engagingly. What catches your attention first about their speech?
His calm rhythm that somehow brings me peace.
A selection of words that evoke specific images for me.
Change of tone of voice – I feel that it underscores something.
His movement and gestures – as if his body was speaking too.
His gaze and contact seemed to speak directly to me.
When you have to repeat someone's statement out loud, what happens to you the most during that?
I am thinking about how I would say it differently.
I will start to automatically mimic the tone and rhythm.
I feel slightly uncomfortable – it's not my style.
I'm trying to repeat it as accurately as possible, like an exercise.
Sometimes I feel like it gets "under my skin."
How do you react when someone in the room is speaking loudly and confidently?
I subconsciously step back and observe.
I will start analyzing in my head what he does differently.
I feel disgust – sometimes it seems excessive to me.
It inspires me – I would like to perform like that as well.
It matters what is being said – the form does not impress me without the content.
If you could imitate someone's way of speaking, whose would you choose?
An actor or actress whom I admire.
Someone from the family – I have their tone in my ear all my life.
The speaker whom I heard only once, but left an impression.
My own inner voice, as I imagine I sound.
I'm not sure – I have mixed feelings about imitation.
What helps you the most when you are trying to improve your speech?
Mirror - I perceive my expressions and posture.
Recording – I can hear myself as a stranger.
Specific words that I can "feel" in speech.
Mirroring someone else – I try their way.
Solitude – I need to first "settle" it internally.
How would you describe your voice in a stressful situation?
A bit stiff, but controlled.
Higher than I'm used to – I feel tension.
Surprisingly calm – sometimes even cold.
Uncertain - changes according to the reactions of the environment.
Distracted – as if I couldn't decide what to say.
What is your stance on the idea that "sometimes you need to play a role before you can identify with it"?
It sounds authentic to me – I have tried it.
I am against it – I don't want to be "someone else."
I understand it as a temporary training regime.
It depends on what the task is.
I'm not sure – I have concerns about losing authenticity.
What do you do when someone asks you to say something in front of people?
I will start preparing in my head – the sentences, emphasis, tone.
I will focus on the emotion – how I want to come across.
I'm hesitant – I'm worried about how it will come across.
I will tell myself that it's enough to be myself.
I am replaying possible reactions of the listeners.
When you practice speaking out loud, what usually happens to you?
I will forget the words and start improvising.
I will start changing the tone according to the idea of how it would sound better.
I am self-critical – I focus on every mistake.
I smoothly transition into a "pose" – as if I were on stage.
It sounds artificial to me – I am not satisfied with myself.
What do you think about the method where rhetorical skills are trained through the repetition of foreign speeches?
It is practical – a person learns through rhythm and tone.
It can suppress nature – one must be cautious with that.
It's like music – you have to feel it first, not just "say" it.
It gives me the structure that I otherwise lack.
I prefer my own words – even if it sounds less professional.
