7 – 9 years: Recognition of emotions and empathy
Imagine that your friend at school looks sad. What would you do first?
I will ask him what happened and if I can help.
I will give him a funny nickname to make him laugh.
I'll leave him be, he can definitely handle it on his own.
I will bring him something he likes to make him feel better.
I will start talking about something else to make him forget about it.
If you were an animal that would best understand the feelings of others, what would you be?
A dog, because I always feel when someone needs a hug.
I am an owl, because I notice everything, but I don’t say much.
A cat, because I can be alone, but also be with someone when needed.
Dolphin, because I love fun and I can encourage others.
A bear, because sometimes I want to help, but at other times I prefer to withdraw.
Your friend is upset because he lost a game. How will you react?
I will tell him that he doesn't have to worry, he will win next time.
I will start talking about something else to distract him.
I'm laughing because losing is not a big deal.
I'll leave him like that, let him get angry, and then I'll come back to him.
I'll try to give him a chance to win in something else.
What sound do you think joy could have?
Ringling laughter and clapping hands.
Quick drumming, like when someone jumps for joy.
Quiet singing when someone is content.
A loud shout, like when someone celebrates a goal.
No sound, joy can be felt in silence as well.
Imagine that you have the magical ability to see emotions as colors. What color should sadness be?
Dark blue, like when there is a storm in the sky.
Gray, because sadness is heavy and pulls you down.
Light pink, because it can be subtle and quickly fades away.
Black, because sorrow can be as deep as the night.
Green, because after sadness, something new always comes, just like in spring.
When you see someone crying, what is the first thing that comes to your mind?
Maybe I can help him if he tells me what’s bothering him.
He might need to be alone for a while to calm down.
I should probably leave so I don't disturb him.
I hope they stop suffering soon.
Maybe I'm just thinking that he/she is crying, but he/she feels something different.
If you could bottle up an emotion to save for later, which one would you choose?
Happiness, so that I may have it when I'm sad.
Peace, so that I can use it when I am angry.
Surprise, so I can still enjoy something new.
The courage to not be afraid to try new things.
Love, so that I can give it to someone when they need it.
If you could make a gift that would help someone feel better, what would it be?
A soft pillow to hug when someone is feeling sad.
Miraculous glasses that would show only good things.
A book of jokes so that everyone can have a laugh.
A bracelet that would remind of beautiful memories.
A bottle of fragrant air that would bring calm.
If you could choose one superpower to help your friends, which one would it be?
To be able to hear what someone feels, even when they don’t say it.
To be able to change moods so that people feel happy.
To be able to make everyone who is sad laugh.
To give people the strength to cope with what troubles them.
To know how to stop time so they can rest when they need to.
Imagine that you are a fairytale hero who helps others with their feelings. What would your name be?
A silent listener who always hears and understands.
A heart on your sleeve that can bring joy.
An invisible friend who is always there for someone when they need it.
A brave healer who helps through hugs and words.
The spirit of joy that can bring a smile to every face.
