Imagine that someone disagrees with your opinion on an important topic. How do you respond?

First, I try to understand why they think something different, and then I formulate counterarguments. I am looking for a way to bridge our opinions and find common ground. I firmly stand by my opinion and I try to defend it regardless of the other side.
